Training at the gym is a fun and at times tedious task that strengthens all aspects of self. Think about it: people that workout consistently are literally transforming the structure of their character. Molding their strenght, stamina and mindset by working past obstacles.
Have a Goal
With over 5 years of strength training at the gym. I've noticed a pattern in people that are new to weight lifting. They are motivated to workout and build strength for a few months, but they eventually fall into old habits when things get difficult. After about 3 months of lifting weights at the gym, the muscles become increasingly more difficult to build and grow. And without a longterm goal in mind many are unable to stay motivated, and hungry for improvement. I've witnissed plenty of friends that quit going to the gym. But I never quit working out, and I wont. I'm committed to working out consistently, so I train with focus and discipline. With a longterm goal of building longevity, great physical health, stamina and strength.
If you want to see longterm improvement, you should have longterm and short term goals while working out. A longterm 20-30 year goal could be "build great longevity" that keeps you motivated and focused on the larger picture of why you workout. Then have other milestone goals. Examples of 3-12 month goals:
Jog 10km without pausing.
Lose 10-20 pounds.
Develop six pack abs.
Be healthy and enjoy life more.
Build physical strength.
Improve focus and energy.
Everyone have different goals and motivations for training.
Find yours and work to achieve them.
Have a Routine
When you have a routine of working out at least 4 times per week you consistently hold yourself accountable and make the longterm goal a weekly reality to pursue. Don't be spontanious with workouts, be disciplined and get it done. There are those that have a gym card, and only workout once per week. Don't be one of those if you decide to workout. Be committed to training at the gym at least 3 to 6 days per week at a specific time. I personally enjoy training in the morning, just get it done before the daily work starts. Like blogging, working on my business project, coaching, networking and so on.
Workout For The Energy Boost
Working out doesn't have to be fun, but the after rewards are worth the temporary effort. If you see no reason to exercise, at least consider doing it for the boost of energy and longevity. The rewards are truly mindblowing and awesome. It's been shown through science that all forms of exercise: weight lifting, running, walking, yoga and sports activate endoprhins naturally in the mind. Which make us feel happy, at ease and good.
When it comes to exercising, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
